About Lyn: 64 years of age; hearing-impaired. 

 

Background with ASL:  Instructor of ASL for 30+ years; Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Tennessee, Washington.  Instruction for: businesses, organizations, schools, group homes, places of worship, hospitals, law enforcement, airline and  fire fighter personnel, teachers, families and individuals  (tutoring).

 

Students: A mix of those with normal hearing, partial or profound hearing loss, and those with a loss of  both hearing and vision.  Youngest student: 8 day old baby.  Oldest student: 93 years of age.

 

Special Needs:  Experience tutoring children with delayed or disrupted speech due to: Down’s Syndrome, child abuse, Apraxia, Autism, Aspberger’s Syndrome, hearing loss, mental and emotional disorders and learning disorder. Tutoring for individuals whose speech was disrupted due to strokes, head injuries, head surgeries, throat disorders etc. 

 

Experience In Seattle: Taught at the West Seattle Senior Center, may resume classes there in the fall, 2008.  Taught the principal and all teachers and students at the West Seattle Montessori Pre-School for the past 3 years, will begin fourth year there, fall, 2008.  Taught Caretaker-Infant sign classes at Urban Monkeys (downtown Seattle).  Tutor individuals in the Seattle area as well. Offer specialized sessions for those who wish to teach basic classes in ASL.

 

Community Service:  Occasionally host, free two-hour community ASL sessions; the next one is scheduled for August 23, 2008, Freshy’s Coffee Shop, 2735 California Avenue, SW, West Seattle - directly  across from The Hiawatha Community Center. 

 

Fees:  Typically $45 to $65 per hour. However, fees are often adjusted, up or down, based on a mix of factors:  location and distance, number of students, instructor's accessibility to copy machines and clerical assistance (or not), degree of difficulty (per group) (per individual), frequency of instruction, urgency of instruction and other factors are taken into account as well.
